The highlight of Fulton Speedway’s season-opening Highbanks Holdup program was a 60-lap, DIRT 358 modified main event Saturday and veteran Billy Decker was in command throughout and pocketed the $4,000 first-place money.
Baldwinsville’s Jimmy Phelps shot up through the field into second in the early going. but couldn’t advance any further and he settled for second. Billy Dunn was third, followed by Ryan Bartlett, Mike Mahaney, Adam Pierson, Ron Davis III, Dave Marcuccilli, Tim Sears Jr. and Jackson Gill.
Matt Janczuk and Chris Mackey each won a 25-lap crate sportsman feature, with Chris Bonoffski taking the four-cylinder finale.
Matt DeLorenzo outran Rocky Warner early and Stewart Friesen down the stretch to pick up the $2,400 win in the 30-lap Fonda Speedway modified feature Saturday.
Although the victor has 48 career Fonda wins, it was his first trip to Fonda’s victory lane since September of 2013. Friesen ended up second, with Warner, Ronnie Johnson and Jessica Friesen completing the top five finishers.
LARRY WIGHT TAKES LAND OF LEGENDS OPENER
Larry Wight passed up a 358 modified special at his family-owned Fulton Speedway and raced the 59th season-opening big-block modified show at the Land of Legends Speedway in Canandaigua.
The Phoenix driver took the lead in his Gypsum Express machine on the sixth lap and went on to the $2,000 win in the caution-free main event. Justin Haers was second, followed by Peter Britten, Matt Sheppard and Danny Johnson.
OCFS: Dillon Steuer won Saturday night’s modified feature at the Orange County Fair Speedway, with 16-year-old Alex Yankowski winding up second.
THUNDER MOUNTAIN: Potsdam’s Mike Maresca won the modified feature Saturday at the Thunder Mountain Speedway and Andy Bachetti was the big-block victor at Lebanon Valley.
BRISTOL: Spencer Bayston just held off Kyle Larson at the finish to win $25,000 in the World of Outlaws sprint feature at the Bristol (Tennessee) Speedway on Saturday. In the companion feature for WoO late models, Ricky Weiss picked up the second $25,000 check of the evening.
