After announcing that the infamous Belle Isle Giant Slide would reopen again this month, it's closed again. The slide closed after a speed issue sent riders flying on Friday.
Videos flooded social media on Friday showing riders "catching air" on the hills of the slide as they made their way down. Adults and children alike were seen flying into the air and crashing back down to the slide with many reaching the end sideways and even backward.
The Belle Isle Park Facebook page made the announcement saying adjustments were being made to address the issue saying,
It was just a few weeks ago that the announcement was made that the slide would reopen for a short time this summer and be staffed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and in a partnership with Healthy Kidz Inc. RIders pay $1 per ride and it was noted that riders would need to be 48in. or taller.
The Department of Natural Resources indicated that there were no injuries and that there were staff members at the top of the slide assisting riders with instructions when the speed issues occurred.
